Everyone wants certainty in their life…certainty is perhaps even more important than happiness. Many people, who live uncertain lives, want to know what’s going to happen…if they will find true love, if they should change jobs, if they should move to a new town, and so on.

Some of these people consult psychics, whom they believe can see into the future and tell them what they want to know. Psychics are people who have “extra sensory perception,” and can see into the future.

There are different varieties of psychic phenomena. A “medium” is, to use the dictionary definition, a “person through whom the spirits of the dead are alleged to be able to contact the living.”

A “psychic” is a person “a person who is allegedly sensitive to psychic influences or forces; a medium” although psychics don’t necessarily contact the dead… a medium is always a psychic but psychic isn’t always a medium.

Some psychics perform their readings by holding something that belongs to the person in question, others read from tarot cards, and so on.

Many prominent people throughout history have believed in the powers of psychics – for example Franklin Delano Roosevelt, while president, consulted a psychic, as did Woodrow Wilson. Perhaps most famously, Nancy Reagan consulted a psychic while her husband was in office.

So if you’re going to consult a psychic, you’re in good company. Nevertheless, it’s always well to “test drive” a psychic as you would any professional whom you were thinking of hiring to do a job for you. Indeed, it would be even more important to “vet” a psychic, since you’ll be trusting them to give you advice on your love life and perhaps even your business career.

You can visit a psychic in your home town…or at least one who lives close to you. This would seem to be the best way to go about it, as most psychics practice psychometry – they hold something that belongs to you, and get impressions from it, which they use to give you advice.

If you’re going to visit a psychic, it all boils down to the fact that you must believe in psychic power, otherwise why would you pay money to visit the individual?

And many people do believe in psychics, and have done throughout the ages.

Unfortunately, the psychic profession is more prone than most to have its fair share of frauds and charlatans. Too many people are too desperate in their lives, and will actually go from legitimate psychic to fraudulent psychic, until they find one who will tell them not what is true…but what they want to be true…or at least what they want to hear.

Even if these charlatans attempt to get no extra money out of their clients, happy simply to get their small payment from a single visit, they are still frauds.

When you’ve had a psychic reading, therefore, the thing to do is analyze the advice you’ve been given. Is it going to cost you extra money to follow this advice? Is it going to necessitate that you return to the psychic for more information? Those are clues that you can’t trust what the psychic has said.

An interesting book to read is Suddenly Psychic: A Skeptic’s Journey by Maureen Caudill. Caudill has degrees in math and physics from prestigious universities, and did not believe in psychic phenomena until she started experiencing them herself. Of even more interest is a book called Diary of a Psychic, written by an actual psychic, Sonia Choquette. Indeed, before you visit any psychic, give this book a read.

On the other side of the coin are books written in an attempt to debunk psychic theory, such as Science or Pseudoscience: Magnetic Healing, Psychic Phenomena, and Other Heterodoxies by Henry H. Bauer.

Another particularly good book is The Origins of Psychic Phenomena: Poltergeists, Incubi, Succubi, and the Unconscious Mind by Stan Gooch.

But that’s getting off the track. The question is.. Can you trust a psychic reading? And the answer is, if you have found a psychic whom you trust – after due diligence – then of course you can trust the reading. Unless you are being advised to take action that goes against your very principles…then it’s perhaps time to find a new psychic

If you’re having problems in your life, and feel the need of advice from a psychic, it’s important that you know what to expect when you consult such a person.

The most important thing is to not have unrealistic expectations. Can a psychic tell you what numbers are going to be picked in the next lottery drawing? Probably not! There are too many other psychic auras swirling around such a drawing, as everyone with money on it is expending psychic energy trying to ensure that their numbers are drawn.

When we think about a psychic reading we tend to think about a live reading. In other words we probably picture ourselves being seated face-to-face with a psychic in their home or at a fair or we might imagine speaking and consulting with a psychic in real-time over the phone. Furthermore, in today’s virtual world we might even think about having a live psychic reading via online chat.

Yet another popular medium however for psychic readings is email. Even before the internet existed many psychics offered (and some still do!) readings through regular, old-fashioned “snail” mail. The psychic would type or even write out the reading by hand and then take a stroll to the nearest post office and mail it to the client. Just so long as your psychic’s handwriting was more legible than your doctor’s then this was a nice alternative to an in-person reading.

Of course the advent of email makes this style of reading a lot easier these days but an important question still remains: Is it better to have a psychic email reading or a live psychic reading?

This is a great question and the truth is that when you are dealing with a gifted psychic it’s just not the case that one style of reading (whether it be in person or via email) will necessarily be better or more accurate than another.
