One might assume that a psychic is a psychic, and that’s that. Yet you may be surprised at how many different types of psychics there are, and how their abilities differ. For the purpose of this article, I’ll refer to these abilities as “gifts”. It’s unlikely for any one psychic to possess all the gifts. However it is common for them to have more than one gift. So it’s fair to say that most psychics are more like specialists rather than general practitioners.

For this reason then it’s very important when looking for a psychic, to determine in advance exactly what information you’re hoping to get out of the reading. Then you need to find someone that specializes in providing the specific type of service you need. To give a ridiculous example, you wouldn’t go to a pet psychic to make contact with a deceased relative. You’d obviously need the services of a Medium/Channeler.

Let’s take a look at the many different types of psychics out there. This should make your search a lot easier and help you choose the ideal psychic for your needs.

Channelers a.k.a. Mediums
Psychics gifted with this ability are literally able to allow a spirit to use them to pass along information to to someone still alive. The spirit doesn’t actually “possess” them, but just uses them as a sort of conduit throughwhich to speak with someone. Psychics with this gift are also highly sensitive to spirits in their environment. Most of us refer to these spirits as ghosts.

Clairvoyants
A Clairvoyant “sees” things that are relevant to the information being searched for. Police departments often use them to find missing people. Clairvoyant means “Clear Vision”.

Precognitives
Precognition means “to know before”. Psychics with Precognition are able to know things before they happen. This gift is more complicated than some of the others because psychics often don’t know when their experience is going to happen, it just happens.

Psychometrics
Webster’s dictionary defines Psychometry as “divination of facts concerning an object or it’s owner through contact with or proximity to the object”. In other words, these psychics can provide information about someone by being around or touching something that belongs to the individual — also very helpful in finding missing persons.

Clairaudients
The word clairaudient means “clear hearing”. Psychics who are clairaudient are able to “hear” things that other people can’t. When they hear something though, it’s not with their auditory system, but rather with their mind. They can actually hear a persons’ spirit guide and relay information to them.

Clairsentients
To be Clairsentient means to have “clear feeling”. Psychics with this gift are able to feel an actual physical symptom relevant to the information they’re seeking. If someone died of a heart attack, the psychic may sense this by experiencing chest pains. They are also able to sense the emotions of other people.

Empathics
A psychic who is an Empath can pick up on other peoples’ emotions to such a degree that they can honestly feel what another person is feeling. This is a great gift that can allow them to help someone work through an emotional event.

Animal Telepaths
Frequently refered to as “Pet Psychics”,
these people are able to psychically connect with animals. They are often quite successful in solving problems with a pets’ behavior.

So as you can see there are many types of psychic gifts. Finding the right psychic to address your particular need is vitally important in assuring a successful reading.
